There is a portion of the flame that is hotter, but not at the tip.
Light that match of yours, and look at the burning end. You can see the
match head and paper burn with a clear area, then blue/white sphere
followed by the yellow/red outer flame, finally ending in the darker
soot/smoke area arising from the tip. The hottest part is the junction
between the inner blue flame and the yellow/red flame.
