We met Peter the day before he died.
He had just taken a fall in the creek at Osborn, and
he and his clothes were all bloody.

He told us his dog died in the 100 mile wilderness,
and his wife died the previous year.

He said he almost died on Katahdin.  He went up on a
very bad day, and aborted the attempt very near the
summit. He said he got to the point were he could
barely move, and then aborted the attempt.

The next day, he went up in good weather and
successfully summited.
