[at-l] Death of a Trail Maintainer

I sorry to inform you of another death on the trail -- this time of a trail
maintainer on a work weekend.

Billy Medlin (a.k.a. "Billy Bob") died at about 5:00p.m. on the AT north of
Hwy 42 this Saturday. He was coming down from the shelter he loved so much.
Club members were with Billy when he keeled over, they and a couple of other
friends tried CPR and mouth-to-mouth until a rescue squad arrived, but their
efforts were unsuccessful. It took several hours for Billy to be brought
down from his location. I'm sure you all join us in mourning Billy's loss,
but he died doing something he loved...and isn't that how most of us want to
leave this world?

"Billy Bob" was generous with his time, effort, and love. He could always
be counted on to pull more than his share on a work trip. He was always the
one to take new members of the club under his wing. He was a willing
teacher of the art and science of trailwork. He taught us all about working
hard and playing hard. His work ethic was nothing short of amazing.

I'm so sorry to be the bearer of this tragic news -- however, I suspect some
of you knew "Billy Bob" and many others would have liked to have.
