There is a scene in the movie just before the Company begins their
ascent of Caradhras. When we were watching it, I leaned over to my
son (my occasional companion on my section hikes) and whispered,
"Thru-hikers!" He laughed and agreed -- everyone in the company
(with the exception of Legolas, who always looks perfect) had the
sort of ground-in dirty look of folks who have been on the trail for
several weeks. The scene even looked like some of the more rugged
sections of the AT.
