Well, I agree - sort of. Leominster is pronounced a perfectly reasonable
leminster (just leave out the 'o'). It's Worcester and Leicester that get
butchered all the time.
Worcester =3D wooster (like Worcestershire sauce - woostershire sauce)
Leicester =3D lester
Don't make them any more complicated than necessary. :-)
Of course, it's great when you visit England and the locals can't figure ou=
t
where you're from. "Obviously," you're not American because you know how t=
o
pronounce those weird names. But, you certainly don't sounds like any form
of British.
Oh, and I almost forgot:
Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg
Generally pronounced Webster Lake because nobody can get the entire indian
name. (Look it up if you don't believe me.)
On the flip side, I work in a town that should be mispronounced, however, i=
t
is pronounced just as phonetically as it is spelled: Chelmsford. No fools
here, though. lol
