That's  a pretty fair statement, based on my experience -- though sometimes they
come back around age 30 or so.

Unfortunately,  most parents start too late -- including me. My oldest was seven
before  she  did any serious backpacking. I quickly recognized that is too late.
so,  I  started  my  youngest  at three years, three months, so he had nearly 10
years of backpacking. My oldest daughter had to settle for six years or so.
