Once upon a time, a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail meant spending time
away from the conveniences of modern life, immersed instead in a world of
harsh and rugged splendor. It was a time to re-evaluate life's direction,
perhaps. The long walk was an opportunity to forge a stronger connection
with the natural world. Sometimes, it could even get lonely.
But not anymore.
