How very interesting. Yesterday afternoon on NPR's
"Marketplace" there was a discussion of how airlines,
hotels, rental car companies, video rental stores, etc,
are making big bucks on hidden and supplementary
charges -- eg., exorbitant rates for phone calls (hotels)
gasoline (rental car companies) or late-return fees
(video-rental stores.) So this report fits right in.

This is done presumably so they can advertise very
low standard rates -- which apply less often, as these
supplementary/hidden fees kick in. Apparently, for
Blockbuster, these late fees account for about 1/4 of
total revenues.
