I  know  of  nothing  in  the Leave No Trace suggestions that are opposed to the
responsible  use  of soap. I personally recommend against washing your face with
Purell. As I understand it is basically an alcohol gell.

Soap  is  lighter,  more  versatile  and  harmless  to  the  environment  in any
quantities  that  could  possibly be carried by backpackers. If anything it is a
very  mild  plant  fertilzer. In contrast alcohol is harmful to many wild plants
and animals.

Perfumed soap varieties seem to attract bugs, which is why I carry a tiny sliver
of  Ivory  Soap.  I use it on me, my dishes and for the occasional trail laundry
emergency.
