[at-l] Beef in Shepherd's Pie

dehydrated hamburger meat. Dry's great, like little gravel chunks - hence
its nickname of 'gravel'. rehydrates great as well. you can dry it in your
oven if you don't have a dehydrator.

I had shepards pie a LOT on the trail - was one of my favs, soak the gravel
& veg's & dry onions while setting up camp; then boil them up w/ gravy; set
aside to thicken and cook water to mix w/ the potatoes. then either dump
the potatoes on top of the gravy/meat/veg or put the gravy stuff on top of
potatoes. yummy and I had to fight off my hiking mates!

also helps to pack up a tiny amount of spices to add.
salt/pepper/garlic/oregano/thyme all mixed up.

Subject: [at-l] Beef in Shepherd's Pie

Does anyone have a suggestion of what to use for beef in a "boil in
the bag" trail version of Shepherd's Pie? I tried beef jerky and it
was OK, but a little spicy, and a little tough. The other ingredients
are mashed potato mix, gravy mix, corn chowder mix, powdered milk, and
Butter Buds, with boiling water, of course.

Thanks.
