One of the best pearls received in medical school, from the grandson of
the surgeon who treated Stonewall Jackson and was the Surgeon General
for the Confederacy, was to pay attention to how interesting your life
was. If you were constantly confronted by challenging emergencies,
complications and unexpected problems - stop and figure out where you
are screwing up. A boring and humdrum carreer is a very successful one,
at least among physicians.

The other pearl, from just about everyone I've ever known, avoid having
an interesting illness.
