[at-l] Kaheley's list, was OK...hear it is

K--

Regarding "Baseball Bat Wooden Strips". While your definition may be in use
on the trail now, you might want to check into that to be sure. From where
I am sitting it looks to be a hybridization of two different terms.
Baseball bat shelters (or floors) always used to refer to an older style
shelter whose floor was constructed out of round, baseball bat diameter tree
limbs. There are few, if any, of these left now. Others would have more
info on that. The dividers used in some of the shelters in the Smokies
never used to be associated with that term. Of course, we have a living
language though.

You might also include some of the various terms for trail critters
including porky (I once ran into some people who incorrectly thought that
ment a wild boar rather than a porqupine) and wood pussy (I once actually
caused a dayhiker offence by innocwntly using that old New England term for
a skunk).

You have done an excellent job with your list.
