Hmm. From your description, it would seem to be Indian Grave Gap, although
its hard to say, as so many of those gaps are on the TN/NC line, complete
with signs. However, if it was north of Erwin, it was probably Indian Grave
Gap. Iron Mtn Gap also is located next to an NC sign. From there, it is
about, maybe less than but not much, 3 miles to Cherry Gap Shelter. If you
are going south, anyway. Spivey Gap also has the NC sign on the road, but
that's south of Erwin, so that can't be it.

If it was Indian Grave gap, the parking lot, small, true, is on the north
side of the Trail, as it crosses the road. Frequently seen are horse
trailers, as the road up to the Beauty Spot from there is horse friendly.
Anyway - if I had to guess, I'd say yea, it was Indian Grave Gap. If I had
to describe Cherry Gap Shelter, I'd describe it as consistent with all the
shelters in this area. Since I don't *have* to guess about a gap or describe
any shelters, I think I'll just not say anything :) But I was wonderin' why
you were wonderin'. I'm gonna go eat ice cream now.
