Depends on which 3 months and what you mean by remote. For instance,
NJ/NY state line can be very remote in icy weather, although within
view of Manhatten. The Smokies can be very remote from roads and city,
but the trail can be crawling with other hikers.

It is possible for you to complete a major portion of the AT in that
amount of time. I suspect you might be well served to consider a south
bound hike (while prepared to give blood and tissue samples to many
insects) from Mt Katahdin and enjoy the NE mountains while seeing how
far south you can make it - particularly if you consider beginning
after the middle of May '03.
