[at-l] Mt. Rogers Outfitters and AT Outfitters

Every time I hit a trail town with an outfitter I stopped in and made a
purchase. There is always something that broke or just needed to be
replaced or repaired. Without the outfitters, that replacement could take
weeks to get. Also, it was great to receive answers and suggestions from
someone who knew what a long distance hiker needed. An example of how
important an outfitter is: About ten miles out of Hot Springs the buckle on
my hip belt broke. For ten miles I carried the pack (heavy because of
recent resupply) on my shoulders. I was able to repair the buckle after
reaching a shelter but had to rethread the belt each time I took off the
pack. At Erwin I was able to pick up a new buckle for about two bucks and
was happily on my way. If I had to order one I would have had a long wait.
Support those local outfitters. You will need one someday!
