[at-l] 1981 Thruhiker

Just finished reading a new and interesting book titled "The Last American
Man" by Elizabeth Gilbert.  It's the true story of Eustace Conway (who may
have been mentioned on the List before?--see the website for his Turtle
Island Preserve at <http://www.turtleislandpreserve.com/index2.htm>.) In 
the book, Eustace's AT thruhike is briefly recounted.  He hiked some of
it with Frank Chambless, and some with Donna Henry ("Eagle Chaser"), and
did it in "live off the land" style!?!  
  
Wondered if anyone on the List ran into Eustace in '81 and if so, what
their impression of him was.

PS The book's an easy read, but Eustace sure ain't an "easy" person.
