[at-l] Backpacker Magazine

The cover says 101 Backpacking Tips. I'd say the August issue, out July 1st (go figure) is a must have :) This is an email from the magazine:

August Issue: BACKPACKER UNIVERSITY!

Summer is in full swing, and the August 2002 issue of BACKPACKER magazine is packed full of cool ways to enjoy nature’s bounty. Below is a sneak peek of what subscribers have to look forward to.

Go back to school with a Special Section: BACKPACKER University. The professors: the greatest minds in backpacking including explorers, orienteers, mountaineers, adventurers, and inspired souls of the outdoors. The campus: any wild place you choose. The syllabus: advanced skills to take you farther, more comfortably and confidently.

Speaking of learning, get ready for some ‘higher’ learning. Sometimes you need more than a good set of eyes to find your way up the mountain. Blind mountaineer Erik Weilhenmayer did, and he’ll teach you how to navigate by using your ears, nose, and toes.

Erik’s story is amazing as is that of Tim Wilkinson, the real-life hero of Black Hawk Down, who shares his best survival tips with you. This stuff every backpacker should know backwards and forwards.

PLUS: push your backcountry skills to the next level in Washington’s North Cascades… sleep warm and pack light with the best new lightweight sleeping bags… the only pair of backpacking boots you’ll ever need… and so much more.

Stay Cool,

The BACKPACKER Staff
