Yes, yes!  Excellent advice!!!  I have a Jansport external frame that I have 
been loading up with weights and working out with at the gym.  It has been 
fine......or so I thought!!  After buying my Dana Designs Bridger and wearing 
it for just a few days, I was shocked at how horrible my Jansport felt!!!  
And to think I was considering thru hiking with it!!!  The point is that I 
didn't have any back pack experience at all.  I still don't have a lot, but 
my pack is getting more and more comfortable, and I am getting a better idea 
of whtat I want.   Also, I know that it has been said, but the REI and the 
local college in our area rent packs for the weekend.  That would be a great 
way for you to experiment!  anna
