[at-l] Shelter Courtesy

>Take your food outside. Yeah it's raining, or yeah, it's cold. But >don't
>cook in the shelter.

TO RESPOND TO ROB (MY COMMENTS IN CAPS AFTER HIS QUESTIONS):

Is this edict by rule, tradition or courtesy? IT'S NOT AN EDICT. IF YOU NEED TO KNOW WHETHER 'RULE, TRADITION OR COURTESY' IS THE SOURCE, YOU'RE MISSING THE POINTS

Does it matter if you aren't a frickin' slob? YES. CAREFUL PEOPLE SPILL AND MAKE MESSES TOO. FOOD ODORS COME FROM ANY FOOD, EVEN CAREFUL COOKS

How about if no one is looking? GOOD JOKE

How about if you are tired and there isn't a picnic table? THERE ARE OFTEN COOKING LEDGES ON THE OUTSIDE OF SHELTERS IF THERE ISN'T A TABLE. AND YES, THERE IS THE GROUND. SIT ON YOUR GROUND PAD.

How about in the winter? PROBABLY EVEN MORE SO, I THINK. "HIBERNATION" ISN'T CRYOGENIC SLEEP...MANY ANIMALS (INCLUDING COONS/SKUNKS AND ESPECIALLY MICE/SHREWS) ARE ACTIVE IN THE WINTER AND VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY HUNGRY. (Doubt me? go outside in deep snow in a field next winter with a shovel. "Slice" downwards and pull the snow away cleanly. You'll almost certainly see "mouse tunnels". )

How about if there are only a couple people at the shelter and you realy
like mice anyway? AND IF THE PEOPLE TOMORROW NIGHT DON'T LIKE THEM?

How about if you think its every hiker's duty to live free or die? SOMEONE ELSE WISELY SAID, "FREEDOM ISN'T LICENSE. WITH IT COMES RESPONSIBILITY."
