[at-l] alcohol stoves -- quick corrections to some ongoing myths



Longer, as the water is usually starting at room temperature - COLD!
And the wind draws heat away. If you try using an alcohol stove in
those conditions, plan on good preheating to light the thing, as well
as a good windscreen to allow the flame to do its work. 

In those conditions, a canister stove (Snowpeak or the like) and white
gas stoves are the rule. Be very careful about using a windscreen with
canister stoves, as they can over heat and create a small bomb.
