Anyone know why Pierre, South Dakota is pronounced "Peer" instead of "Pe yair"? A doctor told me it had something to do with a poem in which "Pierre" had to rhyme with "here", and it stuck. I've searched the net and can't seem to locate the poem, or the reason for the pronunciation.
I guess you would have to take a hard left turn to the northwest at Duncannon, PA to make this trail related.
