[at-l] Trip report - The rest of the details (longish)

I believe I have the story behind the tent left behind at Muskrat Creek Shelter. I did a 3 day hike from Deep Gap to Bly Gap and back at the end of April,and stayed at Muskrat Creek both nights.When I hiked the 4 miles the first night,their were several thru hikers there.One caught my attention.A recently retired policeman and his son thru hiking the trail. The dad was already having a hard time,he had severe foot pain already.When I suggested he do some slackpacking to ease the pain,he scoffed that it would be cheating.It rained heavily that night,with the son coming in the shelter in the middle of the night.I left and hiked to Bly Gap and then turned around and stayed at the shelter again,since it rained that night too.He signed the register" my tent leaks so much,I'm leaving the bastard." Don't know where he is now,if he was struggling that much a month ago.I'm not surprised nobody claimed it.
