[at-l] Elevation Gain on the A.T. in the Shenandoah Nat. Park

Some of my friends and I hiked/ran the A.T. in the Shen. Nat. Park on
Sat. and Sunday from Rockfish Gap to Highway 522 outside of Front Royal
Two of us used a Suunto watch to measure the altitude gain and loss.
One reading was 
Gain:     20,730 feet
Loss:     21,250 feet
The other watch
Gain:     20,580 feet
Loss:     21,060 feet

That is a lot of gain and loss over 107 miles!!!!!!!!

We saw two bears, one very big ratttlesnake ( 3 of us almost stepped on
it ), one baby fawn that walked up to me and could barely stand up, lots
of deer, and LOTS of hikers, quite a few of which were thru-hikers
We were inundated with a rain storm in the last 10 miles, massive amounts
of thunder, lightening, and rain.

All in all a great weekend.
