Cell phones aren't legally wrong as far as I know -- except in Baxter Park. They
do pose a bit of a problem, however. Tim reports one of these: they tend not to
work for various reasons in mountain regions.
More serious, perhaps, is that they destroy that sense of wildness some of us go
to the woods and mountains to acbieve. No, I'm not going to bore you with an
explanation. But wildness by definition is the absence of civilization. loss of
wildness is probably greatest for those who carry this crutch to civil life.
But it impacts everyone: those who carry them, those who watch others using them
and those who just know others are using them. Yes. I know this is one of the
questions that have no answers. As Louis said, "if you have to ask, you'll never
know."
And of course, users breed the demand for more mountain top cell phone towers,
that also destroy our sense of wildness. YMMV.
