[at-l] cola cans

There are several websites with instructions such as Cat Food Can
Stoves, Photon Stoves, Pepsi Can Stoves and the like. There are also
commercial alcohol stoves that are quite light and good. There is even
the famous TinCanMan who has mailed stoves and instructions to anyone
who asks for one. These are basically containers of alcohol that help
contain denatured alcohol as a fuel to burn as hot and long as
possible, usually using about 1 ounce for about 15 minutes. A pot cozy
made of closed cell foam is a nice addition to save fuel and cook the
food without longer burn time.

These are excellent for 3 season hiking, but do not have the energy for
melting snow and ice, or cooking in severely cold environments. If you
are going into 30 inch snow conditions, you need at least a
butane/canister stove or white gas stove. I suspect the weather
patterns omen that you should be prepared SOBO for winter conditions
for another few weeks. In any case, you need to be aware of means of
dealing with hypothermia - or better - means to avoid it.

Good luck! Wanna post a pack list?
