[at-l] future AT hiker

Hello, all
I came across this list a few days ago and decided to join since I plan
on hiking the AT next year. I hope to learn a lot from the listers who have
completed the AT, and look forward to reading the many opinions.
To let you know a little about me. I am a 26 year old third generation
firefighter/emt from Boston. I have spent most of my life living in Myrtle
Beach, SC. I have always had a love for the outdoors, and backpacking has
been my choice of vacations any and every chance I get. Most of my hikes
have been four to five days in duration in the Smokies. I have been
fascinated by the AT since I first learned of it. My parents took me on a
short section when I was eight, and completing the trail has been a dream
since. The AT will be the largest undertaking of my life, and hopefully the
best. I probably will lose my job since I have only a six month leave of
absence, one day longer and they do not hold my position. I can find a
better one anyway.
Well, as I said, I look forward to learning from you all. I also look
forward to hitting the trail next year.
