back on the trail.  i didn't get on where i had intended, which was 19E or walnut mountain road.  instead i opted to get on the trail in hampton, at the blue blaze trail that takes you right into the laurel fork gorge.  this means that today i am hiking southbound to kincora hostel at dennis cove...

laurel fork creek is running higher and faster than i have ever seen.  the falls are full and majestic.  i am presently sitting at the top of the rock stairway that ascends from the falls to the old railbed.  i counted the stairs: nearly 400!!!

i have been in this gorge maybe a dozen times over the years.  it is one of the premier locations along the entire appalachian trail.  please allow time to linger when hiking through here...

i will probably hike northbound through here on sunday...
