[at-l] Pay phones, cell phones, & Churches

This is a request for information and not meant for discussion and
particularly not for FLAME WARS, The Sequel.

I am compiling info on the following items. If I get enough, I intend to
post it on the list after the main hiking season is over in OCT. I may send
it to more than one list and/or print resource (I've had request for the
info). I will reprint a version of this message every so often until OCT.
-- probably once a month. If you know any of this info, please reply to me
at
	nealb@midlandstech.com
Also, feel free to pass this request on to those who might not be on the
list, but who might live in areas adjacent to the AT or who are hiking any
part of the AT this year (2002)

1)	PAY PHONES: With pay phones disappearing in many places, how
available did you find pay phone in or near the AT? How many pay phones did
you notice? If you used pay phones, were they phone company phones, or the
more expensive private company phones?

2)	CELLPHOHES:	With so many people using cellphones, if you used
one, how connectable was your phone? How clear was the signal? And any
suggestions (if you use them) for using them on the trail? I am not
requesting comments on the advisability of using cell phones. I've gotten
lots of those.

3)	CHURCHES: This started out wondering how close Catholic churches
are to the AT since one of the suggested "requirements" of being Catholic is
that you go to Sabath mass. But I am now interested not only in Catholic
churches/missions/etc., but also any other churches/temples/etc. that are
hiker friendly.

Thanks ahead of time.
