Most of the time it is for the next hiker passing by, BUT *sometimes* the
support crew for 2 trail runners get up before the sun and drive miles
and miles into the wilderness to leave water stashed in a Platy for them,
so when the sorry runners drag themselves by many, many hours later
(after a refreshing nap), they have fresh water to refill with....its a
real drag when others help themselves to your stash. Its also a bummer
when you stash your favorite long sleeve polypro shirt behind a tree
under a rock, to pick up on your way back from a 16 mile run to find that
another hiker thought that was trail magic too...
