[at-l] NIMBYISM and other nonsense

And I'd suggest that until you actually do a thruhike you don't have a clue
about the motivation of those who do and you should avoid making a fool of
yourself like this. And don't give us the song and dance about 2000 miles
and 6 months - that wasn't a thruhike. You didn't subject yourself to the
time and distance stresses necessary to do a thruhike. If you're gonna talk
the talk, then walk the walk first.

Less that a week ago, you complained when I said you consistently defended
RnR. Tell me - just what are you doing now?

And then you said -

There are other versions - one of which is that he's Bipolar and trying self
treatment with alcohol. And that didn't come from OB but from another list
member. RnR's perspective and vision are static - and not even his own, but
what he acquired from (by his own words) a single reading of selected
passages by MacKaye while sitting on WF's porch. "Selected passages"???
What a crock -- translated that means passages selected to fit WF's
particular biases about the Trail. RnR's "vision" is WF's vision. He
doesn't even have the intelligence to form his own. The only thing he has
is a fanaticism that's out of tune with both the Trail and with hiking - to
say nothing of this list.

If you want to insult the list as a whole, Weary, surely you can do better
than claiming that we're not smart enough to accept a second-hand "vision"
that its most vocal disciple can't even adequately defend. Personally, RnR
has failed to convince me of anything because he's consistently lied about
his knowledge and his sources. I don't follow those who deliberately lie -
if they'll deliberately lie to me about one thing, they'll lie about other
things. Used to be known as snake oil salesmen, con artists, etc.

He's failed to produce ANY evidence to support his contentions, he can't
even come up with references from MacKaye's writings. Even I can do that.

He's insulted nearly everybody who's ever answered ANY of his posts (with
the possible exception of "you"). He's pounded the same message at
everybody on the list time after time after time - ad nauseum. And he's
made himself a laughing stock, an annoyance and a fool. If you truly
believe that he has a valid message, then support him - supply the quotes
that he can't seem to find, make "real" arguments instead of the one-line
put-downs and unsupported personal opinion phrased as God-like
pronouncements.

If you really believe that he's an effective advocate in any way, then I
think you need to find an elementary logic course - or see a good
psychiatrist. I can recommend one but I'm not sure he'd agree to take you
on.

Walk softly,
Jim
