I can't help you but I will be following this thread closely.

The last pair of boots I owned for which I had naught but 
unqualified praise, were a pair of Fabiano Trionics -- 
midweight leather boots with leather liners.  They don't 
appear to be made any more.

Since then, I've had a succession of less-than-satisfactory 
boots.  The last pair (Asolo / Scarpa, very pricey) have been 
a big disappointment.

I've always had very wide feet, and I think my hiking (and 
advanced age) have made them even wider.
