 Louise Chaput, 52, of Sherbrooke, Quebec, was found stabbed to death in 
Pinkham Notch on Nov. 22 in 2001. Just yards from the AT near the overflow 
parking lot.

Sounds like the title of a Arthur Conan Doyle story doesn't it? Unfortunately 
it's a more real than that! Louise Chaput, a female Canadian hiker, was found 
Thanksgiving day stabbed to death about 200 yards south of the Glen Boulder 
trailhead, just off Route 16 at Mount Washington near the Pinkham Notch 
Visitors Center. Investigators said Wednesday that her murderer may have 
taken her backpack, sleeping bag and car keys. She was found wearing white 
Reebok sneakers, black fleece pants and a red jacket. Investigators are 
looking for help from anyone who may have seen her or seen anything unusual 
in the area on Nov. 15, the last day she was known to be alive. They have 
refused to comment on motive or suspects in the death, if the condition of 
the body indicated a struggle or speculate about how long she had been dead 
before she was found. Anyone who saw her or has any information concerning 
her death is asked to contact the State Police at 800-352-3411 in New 
Hampshire or 603-271-3636 out of state."
