Re.: I took the bag (camelback) out of it's little pack and putit in the
top compartment of Bob's back pack.

This is similar to the procedure my wife and I have used for a couple of
years of section hiking. We cinch the bag between the backback and the
detachable top of the arc'teryx packs. The only problems we've
encountered is the bag slipping out as the water volume drops over the
course of the day. But even then, no leaks or tears. Just be sure to
screw the cap on tightly. And if you bring the bag into your sleeping
quarters, be sure you put the bite tube where you can't roll over on it
and accidently start the water flowing. Glenn
