I would agree.  Email is one of those unfortunate things
that doesn't allow for other kinds of communication.  When I
said '50 miles from a trailhead', I didn't mean 50 miles.  I
might have said a million miles.  What I meant to mean was
that I have found that the further you go from where someone
can park their car and hike in a weekend, you will usually
find the best, albeit often strangest, hikers.

This isn't to say that weekend and section hikers are scum,
and it isn't to say that there aren't some very nice people
who don't hike.

This is stickier than I intended it to be...
