how many places are there on 
the AT where you can be 50 miles or more from any 
trailhead?  I can only think of one, and that's on the 
hike from Monson to Abol Bridge.

 How I wish that was true! There's several places to access the 100 mile via 
car, it's not unusual to find day hikers and overnighters everywhere in the 
"wilderness."
