### Lon, consider constructing your own water filter in the
field.
### If I understand you, you don't want to carry a filter,
refuse to *not* filter, abhor chemicals, and don't want to take
the filter you already own. (Tell me if I've missed anything.)
### I *think* that leaves carrying your own water for 125 miles
(at 3 quarts/day//10 miles/day, depending on weather, that
leaves you with a ~75 pound load before food, shelter, pack,
MasterCard, or [dual-use] condom) *or* with making your own
filter in the field, carrying nothing more than a claw head
hammer, and 10 10# nails per water stop (approx. 30, or 300
nails, or about 6.2 pounds, total load is at 1/10th of the wacky
"carry your own water" school). *Obviously,* the
field-constructed filter box (plans available Copyright 2002 The
Sloetoe Institute, Payme, MO.) is the lighter weight way to go,
plus-which everyone who follows you will drink a toast to your
passing from water filtered from *your* filterbox left behind.
