Buy file boxes from your local office supply store.  At my
local Office Depot, six boxes cost four bucks.  Put books in
boxes, number boxes, and note numbers and contents in a
notebook.  Put the notebook in box #1.

Now you have identically sized units that you can move
around easily, four at a time with a hand cart if necessary,
and can stack six high.

A dryer sheet in each box helps with mustiness.
