[at-l] Convincing myself to go . . .

I'm not an expert on life.
But, I'm leaving in two weeks to start my thru.
I've been dreaming of this for 5 years. My husband
has always said he didn't want to do the AT.
So, last year I decided that it was time to DO IT
without him.

>>How have some of you convinced yourselves and
>>significant others that embarking on such a great
>>journey is the right
>>thing to do?
You only live once. This is your chance, your choice.
You can sit at a desk and work your whole life and
then wonder where your life went. In October, I don't
think I will be saying "gee, I wished I had worked all
year".

>>What did you do about health insurance?
I've got emergency medical insurance with a high
deductible

>>What about
>>wives/girlfriends/husbands/boyfriends? I have a
>>girlfriend of 8 years
>>who is not too keen on the idea of me hiking that
>>far . . . she gets
>>worried when I leave for a long weekend trip with a
>>friend . . .

I've got a husband of 19 years. Sounds like your SO
is a worrier. Have you given your SO any reason to be
worried? Helicopter rescues ? Does she worry when you
go off to work in the morning? I think the trail is
going to have less risk (for me)than my two hour daily
commute to work!

Our relationship has its ups and downs, but we trust
and love each other, and that eventually gets us
through all the "rocky parts".

>>Your advice and support is welcome. Thanks.
Think POSITIVE and have a great trip.
