[at-l] Humorous twist on RE: Re[2]: "Purity,"

I'd been tempted to tell them that yes, he had to exactly retrace his steps
back to Springer. And then he could head north and have them count.

But then I once joined in a harmless practical joke where we got a
bridegroom soused the night before his wedding. Then we stored him in a
way-out out-of-town motel (actually only 20 minutes out). Next we filled
the room with papers, matchbooks, etc. from DC. Then we arranged with the
desk to listen in as he tried to call a Columbia cab company and get them to
pick him up & take him to the DC airport so that he could fly home to
Columbia for his wedding.

Once when I was staying at Shaw's in Monson, a "pure" thru hiker called
Harpers
Ferry to ask if it would alright if he just walked along Route 15 to get
back to
the AT, or should he retrace his steps to take the "new" AT that bypasses
Monson.
