       Not to sound naive, but how could that possibly ever happen?  Even if 
we are aware of things like advertising encroaching onto the trails, and 
switchbacks being added, most of society isn't even aware of the length or 
location of the trail.  (Just ask me football-playing trainer!!!)  I run into 
people daily that are full of awe at the idea of the AT.  I think that the 
mystique is here to stay!<S> Anna
