[at-l] Free Download - ALDHA's Thru-Hiker Companion Book

I'm all about free! I really like cheap also, but I have this itchy feeling that paying for it is the way *I* should go.

I use the online version, in fact, I have the full version of adobe acrobat (not the free reader) and thus I was able to save the whole 2002 version of the companion to my computer and have access to it whenever I want to look, but I bought the actual companion from them as well and will use it in Georgia for my extremely brief section in a couple of weeks, as well as the other trips I'm planning this season.

I'm NOT being critical of Brawny or anyone else who chooses the free version. This is not a soapbox flame war starter, either. I firmly believe, without reservation, that if they didn't want people to use the free version, they wouldn't have put it out there. I don't think it's stealing or anything similar. I commend them (ALDHA) for putting it out there for people to use, especially for those who donate time rather than money.

What I do think is that, as much as I like free, there are some things I'd rather give money to because I like supporting them.
I actually renew my Sierra Club membership each year rather than getting the free sticker. I paid for membership to the nature conservancy for the same reason. I opt to buy the more expensive membership to the foundation of my local city park rather than the (1/2 as much) seasonal pass because the money is used to fund things I agree with.
I am newly a member of ALDHA and I bought the book because I like what happens with my money.

I don't, however, pay for all the software I own and use, Nor am I a member of my local PBS station.

What I'm trying to say is HYOH. I bought the book.

ALDHA's 2002 Thru-Hiker's Companion book can be downloaded free, all that is required is an Adobe reader and it is also available at the ALDHA site. It really works, Brawny is using her downloaded edition for this year's AT hike.

For additional information, select the URL below, then look for "Free Download" under "Articles Of Interest" about 3/4 way down the page.
