[at-l] OT...commercial web hosting

Well.

The first thing you need to do is purchase your domain name. This is around
$20. I have seen it as low as $15. More if you use someone like Network
Solutions.

The second thing you need is a host. Here is where you need to begin your
research. The first thing you need is to decide what services you need.
Don't always pick the one that has the most for the least, you may find that
even though the options are great they may have a terrible connection, or
may go down allot. No sense in having a site if people can't get to it.

The hosting company I have been using I find to be quite good.

$15 - 50MB per month
$20 - 200MB per month
$30 - 300MB per month

They come with a full control panel, and as of late already come with
pre-installed CGI scripts.

I have been using them for about 2 years now, and have been very happy. I
already have 3 domains up and running on their servers, and am currently
working on a new one. If you want to check them out they are at:

www.gh1.com

The owners name is Dale. He has always been pretty quick (usually much less
than 24 hrs - although been pretty busy helping his customers get used to
the new servers, so I might give him 36 hrs) Just let them know the guy from
trail-life.com sent you.

Now comes the expensive parts

Site Design
Merchant Accounts

Professional looking site design will usually run you around $50 - $200 per
page. Although if you check around you might find some willing people to
give you a hand. If you want to do it yourself you could get a program like
Dreamweaver, or Hot Dog and design a site.

Well I hope that all helps. Any other questions just give me a shout.
