WINDMILL PROJECT: The Tennessee Valley Authority has decided
against building electricity-generating windmills along the North
Carolina-Tennessee border following opposition from residents and North
Carolina's attorney general. The TVA will instead concentrate its
studies on Buffalo Mountain near Oak Ridge, Tenn., a spokesman said.
The TVA decided to abandon Stone Mountain at the border because
windmills there would cause more harm to the landscape, historic
properties, plants and endangered species than on Buffalo Mountain, he
