Another flexibility option we discussed is for more flexibility in start an
finish dates.  The idea was that two folk/teams want to cover a longer
distance over a longer period they could use one of the following
approaches:

1)  On the "official" start date, each begin with a handshake with each of
the teams for next sections at both ends of their combined assignment.  Then
hike toward each other over whatever extended distant they have agreed to
cover.  They could then meet and complete the linkup handshake some days
later than the rest of us complete our sections.

or

2) Some time before the "official" start date, they both start with a
handshake in the middle of their extended section.  Hike toward the each of
the teams for next sections completing the linkup handshake with them on the
scheduled day.
