Construction of fire sticks ( friction) whether fire drill, palm spindle, or plow stick can be quite a chore in wet weather without an axe. It can be done, but it's better to do when dry material is easier to get. Primitive fire building isn't easy, that's why back when that was the only way, folks used to carry fire.
