[at-l] skirting the puddles

A few options...

You can try the hiking pole vault. :-)

You can find a log or a few rocks to put in the puddle to use as steeping
stones/bog bridges for yourself and those that follow. You might want to
read up on appropriate trail maintenance to know what's a good idea and
where.

You can wear waterproof footwear so that you won't care if your feet get
wet.

You can walk through it and not do further damage to the trail.

You can ignore everything you SHOULD do and walk around. (not recommended)

I often find that puddles aren't uniformly deep. A little poking with my
hiking poles and I can often find a way through. But up here, that's
because there are almost always rocks just under the surface that make
reasonable stepping stones if you can find them. Also, if you can get
around the puddle by staying on rocks rather than the soft mud and dirt at
the side fo the trail, then that's a reasonable alternative, too.
