[at-l] Matthew Goss departs Springer Mtn at 9am/14 degrees and windy

I dropped Matthew off at the FS42 crossing just North of Springer
Mountain this morning at 9am.  The temperature was 14 degrees with a
stiff (stinging) breeze blowing.  Beautiful clear day with virtually
unlimited visibility. 

There was only one vehicle at the FS42 parking lot which can become very
crowded during the next several months, but it was a van with NY tags
and a trailer that had managed to block about half of the available
parking.  

It looked like a busy morning at Amicalola Visitors Center with a dozen
thru hikers having signed in since yesterday afternoon at 5pm when I
dropped off Tim and Meg.
