    ***   This sounds like reaching to me. I'm not so stubborn that I won't 
admit that perhaps on these compacted, flat grassy stretches the Leki's 
actually *do* aerate the compacted trailbed and assist in grass growth. A 
veteran maintainer will know that these sections are rare and usually occur 
in remote, boring connector trail stretches that weekenders normally don't 
frequent. Rainy years yield the thickest growth like in '2000...

      An empirical mind would not stop there though and would go past the 
desirable result they seek and admit to themselves that Lekis will no doubt 
exacerbate trail erosion where they impact the worst. Rubber tips for the 
Trail conscious, and service on a Trail crew for the even more conscious...
