[at-l] Who knew?

Have I shared my views on the differences between games, sports, and
athletic events?

If not, then here you go:

I assert that a SPORT requires 4 things:

1) Competition
2) Objective scoring (this takes out things like figure skating)
3) Athleticism (takes out curling)
4) A certain degree of inherent personal risk. (Takes out golf)

If an event is missing one of those for things then I say that it's
either a game or an athletic event, maybe even a "skill" event.

Also, with regard to the Olympics, keep in mind that it's the "Olympic
Games", not the "Olympic Sports"

To make it all hiking related: Hiking is not a sport, because it's not
scored or competitive (arguably).

To make it trail related: The Trail is not a sport, but it might be a
playing field ;-)
