[at-l] Way behind, and loving it (Adirondacks)

"A Hikers Companion" by Cindy Ross and Todd Gladfelter )published by The
Mountaineers) has a good section on backpacking with kids. Theirs were much
smaller. Infants really.

What happened was the husband's pack got heavier and heavier and the wife
was carrying the kids. Then they discovered bike camping!

A good read and a generally good book.

I know when ours were real little, we gave up backpacking for some years and
went canoe camping in the Adirondacks instead.

BTW: to those who complained about hiking in the Adirondacks (trails had too
many interruptions by civilization) you should know that historically this
NY wilderness was canoe country (actually they rowed these little boats -
called Adirondack Guide Boats - wonderful little vessels for lake travel)
long before it was hiking country.
